WHAT IS IT EXACTLY?

Is it radio? A satellite feed? A podcast? A talk show? Cowboy State Daily Radio. What is it?  Why is it?

I listen to traditional broadcast radio. I listen to satellite radio, digital streaming or internet radio. I watch and listen to YouTube and X and Facebook Live. My app has downloaded podcasts from dozens of characters! I’m what you might call a “news & information junkie”.

So what am I doing on Saturday mornings? It could be all the above! Or not. What I do know is I get up at 4:45am on Saturday to show prep so I can talk to listeners (and viewers) for the next 4 hours.  I know by the time I’m done I’ll be nearly hoarse and I will have learned something.

Cowboy State Daily launched by co-founder and Executive Editor Jimmy Orr and Annaliese Wiederspahn in 2019 “are local reporters, editors, photographers, illustrators and videographers dedicated to providing Wyoming with the news you need”. It’s says “Wyoming” but subscribers are all over the world really. As far as I’m concerned it can’t hurt anyone anywhere to get some perspective from the good folks in “The Cowboy State”!

The way I would describe CSD is; an online daily newspaper. It arrives like a newsletter by email, sometimes more than once a day as stories progress (advantage digital).  It has news, weather, sports, lifestyles…like a newspaper without the ink stains & smell.  I STILL love to spread out the newspaper and read it front to back.  And boy is that a great morning when I have that kind of time! But conveniently online, on my computer, on my phone I read CSD just about every day. In October of last year (2024) Jimmy and his team launched the Cowboy State Daily Radio morning show with Jake Nichols, Mon-Fri 6a-10a.  A lot of folks, including Jimmy Orr, have a broadcast radio background.  I know because I did Rock & Roll radio with Jimmy Orr back in the mid – late 1980’s. At my urging, Jimmy will be on my show to talk about that radio past (with photos, yikes) on Saturday May 17th in the 9a hour.

Monday thru Friday Jake covers it all.  If it’s newsworthy, he’s talking about it! If it’s a newsmaker, Jake’s talking to them. Your “buddy Baggs” on the other hand, he tends to lighten things up on Saturdays. Less hard news & politics, more lifestyles, sports, music and yuks.  Why?  Cuz it’s Saturday! And I’ve had my fill of argument for the week.  I want to find someone interesting, entertaining, able to have a conversation, to talk to. We can argue, we can disagree, we can have opposing viewpoints…I just don’t feel like arguing with someone long range or anonymously!  my preference would be to have those arguments face to face where I see your heart and you see mine.
